 his
region stands in the heart of Italy and among its well known dominating
towns we can find the splendor of nature undamaged and blooming. A Breathtaking
countryside that forms a crown around the Umbrian towns and these of
which are immersed in their unforgettable panoramas, their mesmerizing
nature and among the relaxing hills. Umbria is a peaceful and tranquil
oasis where picturesque villages are positioned, with a past that is
still to be found in the medieval atmosphere, in the religious silence,
in the unchanged simplicity. This positioning of these small intriguing
villages, gives an affect of small nativities scattered on the surrounding
hills, full of small streets that pass and cross one another and then
resulting in small squares. In every corner Romanesque or Gothic churches
, wonderful pieces of architecture and Podestà , Priori or Capitali
del Popolo Palaces appear. It is also here that art could be said to
have found its best representatives in Giotto, Cimabue and Pinturicchio
creating in them wonderful exhibitions in every Umbrian town.

he regions capital
is Perugia which is immersed in its splendid memories of the past,
a centre for art and culture which is enforced by having some of the
oldest Italian Universities in Italy. An antique medieval core enclosed
by Etruscan and Roman walls that are still in perfect condition, Perugia
is spread on a hill with which results an uneven course of steep slopes
up and down the city. It possesses many monuments and works of art:
The Etruscan arch, the IV Novembre square which contains the Priori
Palace and the Maggiore Fountain. In our itinerary we have to make
a stop at the spiritual town of Assisi, the town known for centuries
now as the home for San Francesco. Assisi renews its reputation for
peace and togetherness by often organizing numerous meetings and marches
addressing issues of dispute that involve all the international communities
of the world..
Assisi runs along the Subasio Mountain above the plain. Although it
boasts an origin from the Roman era, Assisi’s actual appearance
was definitely determined by the medieval development.

he
most antique core of the town is protected by a defensive mechanism
that consists of eight fortified entrances and a long city wall, still
in optimum conditions, which leads up to two Castles: the Rocca Maggiore
(Major), reconstructed by Cardinal Albonotz in 1367 and the Rocca Minore
(Minor). Assisi apart from the buildings of cult of such an importance
that they can’t be considered only its patrimonial asset (like
that of) San Francesco, tourists can visit also the Santa Chiara and
San Pietro churches. Assisi’s cathedral , which is dedicated
to the Patron Saint San Ruffino, has an unaltered splendid sculptured
façade. On the inside it has succumbed to renovations that have
distorted it and its original fittings from the XIII century, however.
In Assisi’s town square found in the forum, we can find the Priori
Palace from 1337, the Capitano del Popolo Palace and the Minerva
temple from the Augustan period
